Do you ever have trouble being understood? You think you are speaking English, but people look at you like you are crazy, or laugh at your accent.
Or maybe you don't understand Americans when they talk, because their words all join together and they speak so fast!
It's probably as simple as understanding how Americans say words (vowels and consonants) and how to say them correctly.
Do you remember when you first started learning English in school? English is a series of letters formed into words, containing consonants and vowels in certain patterns, pronounced in a specific way. The teacher probably taught words with the same sounds together, and made it easy to understand. This is phonics and it is the basis of English pronunciation.
There are rules (and exceptions) to how American English is pronounced, and it starts with long and short vowels.
What do we mean by "long" and "short" vowel sounds in English? You may not be familiar with these terms, or they may be called other things in your language, but English is sometimes a tricky language to learn how to pronounce because English has 26 letters, 44 sounds, and 150 ways to spell them!!
Pronunciation is the KEY.
In this 1st mini-course, we will show you what the 5 vowels are, how they are used and pronounced in American English, and how to use them in normal everyday words - and exceptions :)
So how can you see what is IN the course?
First - the Overview lesson - with a video showing you exactly HOW to say the vowels and a downloadable Phonics Cheat Sheet for your study!
Next - the Vowels each have their own lesson so you can learn the Long (alphabet) sounds and the Short (relative) sounds, with YouTube videos and examples. Also included are some worksheets for you to use as you study each of the sounds.
When you are able to confidently read and say EACH sound, you will be well on your way to sounding like a native!
Good luck and happy learning!
